The user binbou was using the (\u203e_\u203e) emoticon around the same time. Japanese emoticons are also called kaomoji. Fahlman in 1982. Some say they date back as long as <a href=\"https:\/\/text-mode.org\/?p=10182\">1862<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/text-mode.org\/?p=10105\">1648<\/a>.
