It was very popular to use it for textmode graphics. It is technically similar to\u00a0PETSCII (see <a href=\"http:\/\/text-mode.tumblr.com\/post\/72670585757\/c64-vs-mz-700-this-is-mikulas-vs-krampusz\">here<\/a>) and ANSI, but it usually looks quite different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The difference is not so much caused by the linguistic symbols (like <a href=\"http:\/\/text-mode.tumblr.com\/tagged\/shiftJIS\">Shift-JIS<\/a> vs occidental ASCII). In fact,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/text-mode.tumblr.com\/post\/73299649621\/mz-700-character-set-via\">the character set<\/a> doesn\u2019t seem to have many Japanese characters and&nbsp;they are rarely used for graphics (like with ANSI).&nbsp;Instead, the visual difference is caused by&nbsp;the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Semigraphics\">semigraphical<\/a>&#8221; characters.
