These are ASCII fonts created specifically for the 10p Arial font of AOL in the 1990s. While most ASCII uses a monospaced font, this doesn&#8217;t (and neither does the Japanese <a href=\"https:\/\/text-mode.org\/?tag=shiftjis\">Shift_JIS art<\/a>). Specific tools for AOL ASCII such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.angelfire.com\/ca\/CpRiDeAndDC\/\">Pepsi<\/a> were developed.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<p>In the late 90\u2019s, little hacking programs known as \u201cproggies\u201d became popular in the underground warez scene of AOL (examples: AOHell\u00a0and Fate-X). As these programs became more popular, many begain to feature \u201cMacro Shops\u201d, which were ASCII Art development areas.
